Famous Celebrities And ED
Famous celebrities who have spoken publicly about their suffering with Eating Disorders:
Paula Abdul: Dancer, choreograph and singer Paula Abdul (American Idol Judge) battled bulimia and decided to check herself in a clinic, back in 1994. Her negative feelings about her own body image came as early as seven years old when she began dancing, but "it didn't manifest into a full-blown eating disorder until I was in high school." Today Paula Abdul is a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Paula courageously speaks out about her own past battles, in hopes of encouraging young women to take the scary, but necessary, steps to seek help. "It is one of the toughest things to talk about, bar none, and it is one of the hardest disorders to deal with because it's not black or white. Eating disorders really have nothing to do with food, it's about feelings."
Fiona Apple: Singer and songwriter Fiona Apple became anorexic after being raped outside of her mother's home at the age of twelve. She says she was not anorexic out of a desire to be thin, but as a reaction to being raped. She also admitted to having self-injurious behaviors in the past.
The Barbie Twins: Pinup and model sisters Sia and Shane Barbi - known as the Barbi Twins - battled anorexia and bulimia. The sisters have written a book about their struggles with an eating disorder (Barbie Twins - Dying To Be Healthy: Millennium Dieting and Nutrition) and are touring through schools and colleges, raising eating disorder awareness.
Victoria Beckham: Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice from the Spice Girls) publicly admitted struggling with an eating disorder in the early days of the Spice Girls, after years "in denial". "I was very obsessed. I mean, I could tell you the fat content and the calorie content in absolutely anything," she told ABC's 20/20 in 2003. While being a Spice Girl, Victoria was under a lot of pressure from the management to lose weight and stay slim. Beckham also said that bandmate Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) encouraged her and Melanie C (Sporty Spice) to do sports and take liquid meal substitutes. Victoria eventually started to binge eat and in one passage from her autobiography she describes eating 10 bowls of cereals at once. In her book "Learning To Fly", which also contains a lot of pictures of the star, Victoria talks about her obsession with her appearance and describes her illness.
Kate Beckinsale: Actress Kate Beckinsale struggled with an eating disorder during her teen years, before she decided to start acting. She has frankly spoken in interviews about her eating problem. Thanks to the support of her family and therapy Kate was able to recover from anorexia. "People keep asking me about it but I don't want to be famous for being a former anorexic."
Melanie Chisholm: Singer Melanie Chisholm (Melanie C - former Sporty Spice from the Spice Girls) publicly admitted suffering from an eating disorder and depression. Throughout the time she was in the "Spice Girls", Melanie alternated between starving herself and excessive exercise. "My mum assumed my tiny body was a result of being busy with the band and working out regularly."
Kelly Clarkson: The 'American Idol' winner struggled with bulimia for six months until friends discovered her secret and begged her to get help.
Diana, Princess of Wales: Princess Diana struggled with an eating disorder and also admitted that she used to self-harm herself. The following is an extract of an interview of Princess Diana about her battle with bulimia - "I had bulimia for a number of years. And that's like a secret disease. You inflict it upon yourself because your self-esteem is at a low ebb, and you don't think you're worthy or valuable. You fill your stomach up four or five times a day - some do it more - and it gives you a feeling of comfort. It's like having a pair of arms around you, but it's temporarily, temporary. Then you're disgusted at the bloatedness of your stomach, and then you bring it all up again. And it's a repetitive pattern, which is very destructive to yourself." Diana also admitted in a television interview that she intentionally cut her arms and legs and had thrown herself down a flight of stairs on more than one occasion.
Calista Flockhart: Actress Calista Flockhart admitted after years of being in denial that she struggled with anorexia while filming the TV show 'Ally Mc Beal'. "I started under-eating, over-exercising, pushing myself too hard and brutalizing my immune system."
Jane Fonda: Award-winning actress Jane Fonda revealed several years ago that she had been a secret bulimic from age 12, and struggled with anorexia and bulimia for 30 years. Jane became one of the first Hollywood actresses to break the silence and talk openly about eating disorders and campaigned to raise awareness about anorexia and bulimia. In her autobiography "My Life So Far", Jane honestly talks about her 30 year battle with eating disorders.
Geri Halliwell: Singer Geri Halliwell (former Ginger Spice from the Spice Girls) publicly admitted suffering from bulimia and binge eating for several years. "I realized I couldn't control this monster anymore. I needed to find help." Her piece of advice for those who are struggling - "I can honestly tell you from personal experience, that worrying about an eating disorder really can get you down. There's nothing to be ashamed about. You'll be amazed at the difference it'll make to your whole life if you tell someone you trust. There are lots of people who want to help and you really CAN'T fight this one on your own. It might be a hard decision to make, to tell people and to seek help but, trust me it's nowhere as hard as trying to deal with it on your own." Geri has written a book called "Just For The Record" in which she talks with brutal honesty about her life, including battling and overcoming eating disorders, which she has struggled with since childhood.
Alanis Morissette: Canadian singer Alanis Morissette has admitted that she has struggled with anorexia and bulimia between the ages of 14 and 18 when she was trying to break into the music business. She wrote the song "Perfect" (from Jagged Little Pill album), inspired by her eating disorder recovery. Click here to go to the "Perfect" lyrics.
Mary-Kate Olsen: Actress Mary-Kate Olsen ('The Olsen Twins') checked into an eating disorder treatment center and underwent treatment for anorexia after months of speculation and rumors about her thin appearance and denying of being anorexic. Mary-Kate celebrated beating her eating disorder by giving away clothes that no longer fit her. She donated thousands of dollars worth of designer clothes to a thrift store in Hollywood. Mary-Kate has gained a bit of weight again and is happy with her new-found curves and also decided to keep the weight on and to get rid of her skinny wardrobe.
Sharon Osbourne: (married to Ozzy Osbourne), who has survived deadly colon cancer in the past, has confessed she has been suffering from bulimia for 35 years and she is still struggling. In a way, I was trying to get rid of my breasts. Everyone my age wanted them, so it was like, whoo-ooo. Then I started hating them. And for all of my movies, I was supposed to be younger, so I'd have to strap them down."
Portia de Rossi: Former 'Ally McBeal' actress Portia de Rossi admitted to an eating disorder and blamed Hollywood's pressure to stay skinny for developing an eating disorder.

"My uncle is a chef. My mother is a fantastic cook. We're all big eaters. It was kind of unavoidable." In high school, she was a bit heavier and classmates called her "Blubber." The criticisms led to depression and eating disorders. Today, Kate Winslet is healthy, she loves her body and her curves and refuses to play the 'super-skinny game'. "I'm happy with the way I am. I'm not like American film stars. I'm naturally curvy. This is me, like it or lump it. People think that if a woman isn't rail-thin, then there must be something wrong with her - it's such nonsense."

Food For Thought - How To Spot If Your Child Has A Problem

Food for thought: how to spot if your child has a problem
* Body dissatisfaction, particularly in girls who mature early ("I can't stand my hips. No one else has them!")
* Skipping meals ("I had a big snack at school")
* Weight loss to the very bottom of normal for her build and height. Slowly the weight drops into slightly below normal without worry or fear of health consequences ("I'm fine. I feel great!")
* Excessive exercising
* Preferring to eat in private
* A tendency towards perfectionism in everything she does ("I can't believe the teacher gave me an A-")
* Developing odd eating habits, such as cutting things into tiny pieces
* Eating only low-fat food, or suddenly deciding on vegetarianism
* Vomiting after a big meal ("Something must have been off" she might say if caught)
* Sudden bingeing ("See! I'm eating!").
* Episodes of overeating or undereating - bingeing and starving
* Studying food labels
* May feel uncomfortable both emotionally and physically after eating, due to anxiety over the calorific intake, as if one meal could catapult her into a size 18
* Begins to consider various diet plans and rigidly applies herself to them

Finders Keepers Article - Why Women Aspire Be Super Skinny

Why Women Aspire to Be Super Skinny
And Why it Might Not All Be the Media's Fault
Women have always wanted to be skinny, pretty much from the beginning of time. Of course it would be easy enough to blame the media for smearing their pages with super skinny models, but the fact is even if you took all that away, women would still be trying to slim down. Many people have developed serious medical conditions by trying to starve themselves down to a smaller size. Others try to over exercise, under eat, and then they end up wondering why they are not healthier for slimming down. Yes, in this country we have a serious problem with obesity, but that darker side to weight loss is always there. Now many women use the excuse that men are to blame for this thin epidemic. As much as I love playing the blame game, we sometimes forget that we make our own health decisions. When people do this they will point out those men, want their women to look like those models in the magazines. In recent surveys, we have now learned that men would actually like their women to be a healthier weight, then to thin. Think about it when was the last time you saw a man looking at another man's body and saying wow, you look thin today! That is because men and women are different when they come to look at themselves in the mirror. As a woman, I know that we compare ourselves to other women as if it is a contest. We are not trying to do this for men we are doing this to beat other women. This is where the skinny factor comes in to play; we want to be the best we can be. It does not matter who is what size on a runway in France what matters is if we look better then the other women around us. We cannot put full blame on the media or on the members of the opposite sex any longer, we need to take responsibility for our own weight. If a man cannot accept you at a healthy weight then he is not even worth your time. Yes people are vain, but we do this to ourselves it does not matter if we want to or not. So I urge you to stop trying to be the next sob story on television and take care of yourself. True change only comes when people are willing to change themselves.

Can Your Friends Make You Fat or Skinny?

Even if hundreds of miles separate friends, this effect remains. Friends and siblings of the same sex appear to have a greater influence on weight gain/ loss than those of the opposite sex. We are more influenced by those who resemble us. Weight gain or weight loss in family members had a smaller effect compared to the influence of friends. Weight gain or weight loss in neighbours had no effect. Although the general trend in the study was that most people were gaining weight - resulting in an obesity epidemic - the same effect was observed for weight loss.
Reason?
If we identify a person as our friend, we hold that person in high regard, which in turn can affect our view of what we consider normal or acceptable. The study suggests that the ‘spreading’ of obesity has less to do with the imitation of our friend’s behaviour and more to do with a change in our perception of what we consider to be the social norm in terms of how acceptable we regard obesity. Thus, when we observe our friends gaining weight, weight gain may become more acceptable in ourselves.
Weight Loss?
The obvious take-home message seems to be to avoid making or having fat friends. However, since weight loss can be equally ‘caught’ as weight gain, focusing on what your skinny friends are doing (or making friends with slim people) could provide an answer to many peoples weight loss conundrums.
So, has a new trend been set in motion? Size-stalking?
Size-Stalking: Find your slimmest friend, one who is trim, healthy and looks great on the beach. This is vital, since there are many ‘skinny’ people out there who are wobbly under their protective layer of clothes. Make sure you share similar body types. There is no point copying someone who is anectomorph (ultra-fast metabolism) and eating thousands of calories a day, when you are an endomorph (sluggish metabolism) and get fat by simply looking at a burger.
Make sure your friend does not have an eating disorder. The aim is to learn how the skinny get and stay skinny - healthily. It is possible. Use common sense. Ask your friend if you can do this. The most likely scenario is that they will be flattered and want to help. When size-stalking your skinny friend, take note of points such as:

What’s in your friend’s fridge and kitchen cupboards?
What kind of foods does your friend eat for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner?
What does your friend snack on? This is important, since many people drop the ball when it comes to snacking.
Does your friend make his or her own pack lunch?
Where does your friend eat and what does he or she order when going out?
How/ where does your friend workout? How often? What classes? What is their technique? Have you got the right gear?
How hard does your friend workout? Compare it to what you have done previously: Were you really working out or simply watching TV or reading (this will always be a mystery), while on the treadmill?

Attitude
Most importantly, learn about your friend’s mindset/ attitude. Do you spend the same amount of time it would have taken to complete your workout, trying to get out of it?
What makes your friend refrain from eating that slice of chocolate cake?
Why is he or she so driven during their workout?
What do they say to themselves to get through a gruelling 5 mile run?
If you can successfully copy your friend’s attitude, chances are that you will successfully lose weight.

My 6-week journey to the land of thin
What does it take for a normal woman to achieve size zero? In this graphic account of extreme dieting, Kate Spicer reveals the revolting cost
A fascination with being thin is a defining part of this rapidly fattening age and nothing exemplifies it better than the recent tumult in fashion and the media over the size zero physique. A size zero is officially 31½-23-34 — little-boy statistics that can be applied to some of the biggest red carpet names of the day. But the term doesn’t bring to mind vital statistics; it has come to represent a state of slenderness and richness that to most normal eyes looks like skin, bone, expensive hair and lovely clothes.
Personally I don’t care too much about the debate in fashion. Models have always been thin and while some have issues, generally the model’s body is an extraordinary one: they are a gangly slender breed unto themselves. More fascinating — and alarming — are the lengths other women will go to physically and mentally to keep themselves well under their natural body weight; and the extent to which most of them think their natural weight is essentially fat.
I am never quite satisfied with my body, but aside from largely healthy eating and regular exercise I can’t be bothered to do much more about it. However, when I was challenged to make a documentary about what it takes to attain the distinctive anticurves of the size zero, I said yes.
These are the lowlights of my descent into starvation.

These are the lowlights of my descent into starvation.
Week one
Am nicely fit, but a wee bit porky (just over 10 stone) after two weeks enjoying death by cheese and ham skiing in France over Christmas. I face the new year with the understanding that the next few weeks are going to be miserable. I will follow a lifestyle that, for example, an actress or singer might adopt were they getting ready for a red carpet event or a video shoot.
First up, the tried and tested master cleanse diet, a concoction of lemons, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and spring water, used most famously recently by Beyoncé to lose 20lb in 14 days.
Buy all the stuff and go home to make up fiery, sweet, sour filth that will be my sole nourishment. Within two days I know I cannot live on this stuff while working. Am agitated, bored — so bored — and have a feeble attention span. My legs might still look sturdy, but they struggle to climb stairs and my head is light as a feather. At times I woozily weave rather than walk.
Leaving the steam room one evening after an ultra-short session at the gym (must keep my metabolism up so that I continue to burn calories at a normal rate and not at a slow starvation rate), I pass out and fall against the wall. A woman props me up. “Sorry, I’m not eating much,” I say in a dizzy haze. She looks daggers: “Well stay out of the gym then, you are a danger to more than yourself.”
I get home and try hard to focus on my ambition to have an x-ray-like body. I try to enjoy the sensation of hunger, something I have heard women in the public eye say and have also read on anorexia forums on the internet. Enjoying hunger is not nourishing for me, and I eat 10 raisins, 10 nuts and a tablespoon of maple syrup feeling weak-willed and guilty. I am going generally nuts.
Appropriately I start eating about 500 calories of nuts a day because my job is impossible to do on the lemonade alone. My attention span improves — a bit. The master cleanse book recommends doing the diet for a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 40, a state of affairs I find unimaginable.
Already I enjoy the feeling of emptiness in my body and every morning I encourage more emptiness by drinking two pints of salty water to cleanse my bowel. The effect is explosive. Obviously this isn’t healthy. I am also smoking a lot more.
So apart from making friends with all the people in the smoking room at work my social life has taken a nose-dive. I turn up to dinners after everyone has eaten; drink water, smoke, and go home exhausted by midnight. Call this life? However, a surprising number of women, when I tell them why I am not eating, say they have done the diet too and a strange sort of kinship over suffering is shared. Crazily it seems I am not alone.
Week two
Haven’t seen my mum or granny for months. Mum asks me when I am coming down. I tell her I won’t be coming home until this is over. Life in Devon revolves around physical exertions and big noisy wine-fuelled meals finished off with sticky nursery puddings. On this diet my happiest place is tucked up in bed alone, stomach grinding with hunger, wrapped round a hot water bottle (I am always cold) with some prescription-strength sleeping pills.
I have to fly to Miami to interview a Hollywood skinny. I cannot take fluids on the plane, so no lemonade. I survive the 12-hour flight on a small bag of nuts and some orange juice.
On arrival I go direct to the hotel to do the interview. I am now beside myself with hunger — I feel like I am floating — and am chain-smoking to try and get my wits together. While I wait for the actress at the hotel I eat some ham and raw vegetables. I try to talk to the Hollywood skinny about weight issues; she goes off the wall. Touchy!

While I wait for the actress at the hotel I eat some ham and raw vegetables. I try to talk to the Hollywood skinny about weight issues; she goes off the wall. Touchy!
After the interview I go for dinner and am so debilitated that I eat a small tuna tartare and have two glasses of wine. Then I crack — that’s the wine — and order some coconut cake. After a few mouthfuls I become hyper, like a kid after too many sweeties, rambling excitedly about how sugar acts on the same neural pathways as cocaine. Everyone stares — I am on a sugar high. My cheeks are flushed and my speech is speedy. I feel happy.
The next day I get up and run for an hour and feel really fat. The truth is, the more weight I lose, the fatter I feel and the more I want to lose weight. I lie in bed in the mornings feeling my hipbones and wanting to feel them more. I want them to jut out.
When an old friend asks me how I am getting on I grumble about how stupid it all is and say how sorry I feel for women who live out their lives in this state of privation. She’s cynical. “I think you’re enjoying this,” she says, knowing me better than myself at times. I secretly agree with her.
Week three
My boobs and arse are flat as pancakes, though the former specifically look awful. During the diet a male friend grabbed my bum and said “Yuck” because it was so lifelessly flat. When I get back to the UK I have to go for my weekly weigh-in and check-up with Dr Le Roux, the metabolic physician at Imperial College London who is managing my health. The weekend in Miami has screwed up my extreme diet.
The thought that I may have put on weight is stressing me out. Obsessive dieters need routine, or a personal chef with them at all times. I feel bloated and guilty. My mind is warped and I have arrived at planet thin where all that really matters — forget art, literature, intelligence, love, family, career — is getting thinner. I am food phobic and can’t stop thinking about sex. A girl needs some kind of sensory pleasure in life, and sex and smoking are the only ones left.
What a strange life, thinking about food all the time but eating none. And when I do, such guilt. I buy some laxatives, which is stupid given that I go straight from Heathrow to a detox retreat in Kettering where I will have daily colonics and consume nothing apart from fruit juice. But then I am becoming very stupid.
The laxatives give me cramps and I arrive at the Homefield Grange retreat tired, agitated and in pain. For the next five days I will have regular enemas. I also — against the wishes of the supervisor there — force myself to train twice a day, a normal activity for the weight-loss obsessive. I ignore almost all phone calls, even from close family and friends. I cannot concentrate on books so, in between the training and the colonics, I watch garbage television and read trashy magazines by day and long into the night because the hunger keeps me awake.
But when Dr Le Roux weighs me and I’ve lost more than a stone in three weeks, all that weirdness and suffering turns to elation. I love my increasing slimness. You can wear anything you want, you look great in photos; put on heels and your legs look like something out of a fashion magazine. I feel a peculiar sense of power and control, and an air of aloof removal from other women.

You can wear anything you want, you look great in photos; put on heels and your legs look like something out of a fashion magazine. I feel a peculiar sense of power and control, and an air of aloof removal from other women.
Against my sisterly instincts I have started judging other women’s bodies against my own, ruthlessly, from their ankles to their chins, which is clearly menacing. But as my entire life has been seized by this body-driven self-validation it doesn’t bother my conscience as it should.
Nothing much great is happening anywhere else in my life: my work output is intermittent as I can’t concentrate, socially everything is a drag, family life is a nono. My biggest excitements are the steam room at the gym, smoking and of course shopping — fashion is made for women of my physical proportions.

My biggest excitements are the steam room at the gym, smoking and of course shopping — fashion is made for women of my physical proportions.
No fear that I frequently feel on the verge of tears. Not to worry that meeting men is harder without a drink in your hand, because if I keep this up I’ll be a trophy-wife weight, I’ll be the sort of thin that a certain type of man likes to buy into as he would a flash car. And with the obsessive shopping and debilitated mental capacities for intellectual combat, I’ll fit the brief perfectly.
I am suckered into the miserably compromised life of the artificially skinny. Yes, it’s a pain in my nonexistent arse not eating much. It requires a lot of concentration and you need to disconnect from certain bonding activities, specifically conversation, drinking and eating.
Week four
Stupidly, on my weekly visit to Dr Le Roux, I tell him about the laxatives and he immediately sends me to a psychiatrist. After a cold hour of being grilled, the psychiatrist says I have the potential to develop bulimia and I am told to start eating normally.
I am beside myself with anger. I have left work now and for the final month had planned to dedicate myself to getting down to a revoltingly thin state. Partly to see the experiment through; partly because this was something I really wanted to do. I wanted to know what it felt like to be as thin as a properly thin person. It’s true that the anorexic state is a cry for help — am I participating in this specific psychopathology? Too right.
With not much work to do I could really concentrate. I had found a personal trainer to help me find that rail-like state. I would train hard twice a day while eating only 1,500 calories, I’d sleep in clingfilm, sweating like mad. He planned to train me as you would a boxer or a jockey getting ready for competition. And in between all I’d do is sleep. But instead I am told to “eat normally”.
Week five
Eating normally? Forget it. My mind is not my own any more and what follows is up there with the worst weeks of my life. I have to go to the Alps for work. The story isn’t going well and I’m stressed. Under stress, when I need to write, I often eat. It’s not cool,I don’t like it, but I do. I am terrified and confused. My body is hungry, but I am continuing to try and control my eating. The consequence of this is bingeing. I binge and then stick my fingers down my throat — twice. Is ita shrink-fulfilling prophecy? All I want is to be thin. I am unhappy.
I go back to Homefield Grange with two friends for the weekend, raving about its weight-loss benefits. I tell them matter of factly about the bingeing and purging, thinking that this is normal. When they both express shock, I feel a sense of isolation and shame. Their shock makes me realise quite how silly things have become.
And it is totally within my power to sort my head out, but I don’t want to. Dealing with it will mean putting on weight. We flick through Heat, The People, Hello!. There is no diversion from slim women, including Nicole Richie, being presented as successful who are clearly living their lives in the ravages of eating disorders. I spend the rest of the weekend reading books about eating disorders. My intellect is starting to fight back against my misguided, hunger-fuelled, bizarre idea of vanity.
Week six
I want my eating to return to normal. Bingeing is distressing to mind, body and soul. And as soon as my eating becomes more normal my human relationships become simpler, and I steadily feel happier and calmer. Nonethe-less I feel a failure and I still think my legs look chubby. I weigh about 9 stone. Most of the thin girls in gossip rags are probably 8 stone or less.
Even though my head was a mess my female friends all thought I looked great when I was at my thinnest. The cult of thin is a powerful one and, truth be told, if I didn’t have to workI could imagine almost enjoying getting into it. In certain pockets of society everyone thinks natural body weight is fat. If you are a perfectionist, as I and many other marginally successful women are, you fit the psychopathology brief for eating disorders. At the weekly weigh-ins with Dr Le Roux, I made him put a piece of card on the scales so that I didn’t obsess about numbers. What I went through is all too familiar to him.

The pursuit of thinness is a way of channelling every emotional energy into one ambition; it is a way of losing yourself in one problem — weight loss — and ignoring all the other issues in your life. Almost all women want to be thinner. When a woman feels low, or challenged by life, sometimes any excess flesh feels literally like the embodiment of their perceived weakness. Control around food is seen asa sign of intelligence and restraint. It’sa seductive and all-consuming addiction when the figures on the scales are a simple, if nutty, method of measuring your success as a human being.

Cosmetic Foundations, Foundation Powders, and Other Face Make Up
Cosmetic foundations such as powders and liquid foundation are used to create a clear, smooth skin tone - the illusion of seemingly flawless skin texture that will last as long as you desire. Foundations provide the perfect base for the application of the rest of your make up products.
Face make up is meant to provide light to medium skin coverage and comes in a wide variety of colors and types.
You may want to use the lightest covering during the summer and the heavier one during the winter.
Pick a Color that Matches Your Skin Tone...
It is also important to choose cosmetic foundations that looks natural (closely matches your coloring) and fits the desired effect you are seeking. You may require a separate concealer for skin blemishes, blotches, under eye dark rings and other discolorations.
Foundation should be applied to the skin first, before any other make up product, since other products may not blend as well to the naked skin and may even make blemishes and flaws look more pronounce.
Cosmetic foundations may be water-based, oil-based or oil-free, with varied consistencies and coverage, and are available in liquid, cream or powder form.
Loose Powder Cosmetic Foundations...
Powder adds the finishing touch to your foundation and keeps you looking fresh throughout the day. Powder can be used on its own to look natural. Be careful not to use too much powder, especially around the eyes where the excess powder can settle into the fine lines.
Powder based cosmetic foundations have the function of combining both foundation and powder in one product. It 'sets' your foundation to make it last, it adds a matte finish to the skin that looks fresh, makes the skin seem finer by making the pores seem smaller. You will only need concealer in addition to this rather that setting the foundation with powder.
Generally, moist products are applied first and other powders follow. But when you use powder foundation, you apply the concealer first. Then, using a latex sponge, spread the foundation across the whole face including eyelids, but not the lips.
Pressed Powder Foundations...
Pressed cosmetic foundations give a smooth, matte finish to the skin that helps control shine. It can be applied with either a damp or dry sponge. At first, it takes practice to use the right amount of powder.
This type of foundation works for all skin types and is easy to carry around since it's not as messy as loose powder. This makes it quick and handy for touch ups. It is available in more shades than loose powder.
When choosing a shade, get one as close to your foundation color as you can and use lightly since it tends to accumulate on your skin during touch ups.

What Is The Difference Between Ana And Mia?
Here are multiple answers:
pro-ana is pro-anorexia
pro-mia is pro-bulimia
pro-mia- pro bulimia (binging and purging or throwing up)
pro-ana- pro anorexia (starving)both are diseases (eating disorders)
pro mia stands for "pro bulimia" and pro ana stands for "pro anorexia." this means that an ana/mia or anamia believes that they are making a lifestyle choice, that they don't have an eating disorder. there are websites [ana's underground grotto is my favorite, personally.] that you can go to to get tips, tricks, and ways to hide it from friends and family. There's nothing wrong with being pro ana or pro mia, and too many people blow it out of proportion. if you want more information, try:cerulan butterflyana's underground grotto or searching "pro ana OR pro mia" in yahoo or google search. :-]

Tips For Purging
Drink a big glass of water while eating, it’ll come up better.Only eat it if you want it up your nose later. No spicy foods!
If you’re going to binge on sweets, make it ice cream. If you vomit right after, there’s absolutely no stomach acid taste (if you eat it on an empty stomach).
Don’t use syrup of Ipecap.
Use a toothbrush and wiggle it back and forth.
Carry around some natural smelling perfume in case you can smell it on you.
Chew gum afterwards and brush teeth often, but not right after. This will only disintegrate teeth faster.

Eat Less
Tips and Tricks to Eating Less
Ask yourself, “Am I just thirsty?” Sometimes we tell ourselves that we’re hungry when in actuality we’re just thirsty! Try finishing at least two glasses of water before you go for food.
Extreme temperatures! Extreme temperatures help make you feel fuller. Before you go for food try drinking a glass of ice cold water or hot tea (green tea will help you most in increasing your metabolism!).
Buy Whitening Strips! When you have teeth whitening strips on your teeth you’re not allowed to eat or drink for at least a half hour. Your hunger pains may go away in that time. Get a pack for as low as $15 and brighten your smile while you get skinny!
Gum, anyone? While chewing gum, inevitably you swallow amounts of air which believe it or not might help curb your hunger. You can get great flavors too like chocolate or fruity blends.
Breath Strips! Some people say using breath strips curb appetite; plus you get fresh breath!‘Mm, Lemons! Suck on a lemon or squeeze a slice into a glass of water. Lemon is a natural appetite suppressant.
Think before you act! Before you go for food, question what you’re about to eat. Ask yourself, “Will eating this help me get thinner?” Unless you’re eating healthy food, the answer is probably “No.”

Fasting...the golden word.
Fasting...every anorexic's wish and strongest point, and unfortunately also the time when you're most likely to trip, fall, and binge hugely. I have a few golden rules for fasting:
1: Pray the night before you start. No I'm not joking. This is coming from the most ardent aetheist ever, but seriously, praying before makes a huge difference, almost as if there's some kind of Divine Intervention...
2: Start the morning off with 2 massive glasses of water, then drink lots throughout the day.
3: Cigarettes and chewing gum help a lot during a fast, as does keeping busy.
4: Try to do as much exercise as possible for the first 1-4 days; this is when your body will be using most of it's resources, and therefore you want to burn as many calories as possible.
5: Days 1-4 are the hardest. Usually always when you binge....so keep occupied and keep a diary, think of the end result.
Fasting is one of the best ways to lose wight fast. Fasting basically means abstaining from all solid foods, having things like water, fruit juice, soups etc. Every day you fast uses on average about 2000 calories, which is a helluva lot, and at the end of a 5 day fast you can usually expect to have lost about 10lbs. If breaking a fast, drink lots of fruit juice and soups, but try not to have solids. Your body will 9 times out of 10 reject it and demand more as the stomach has shrunk quickly then been stretched. If, whilst on a fast, you get an uncontrollable urge to binge, make up some low-cal soup. Forget the appetite suppressants, these will not work at that time, the only thing to do is to fill your stomach, but with nothing solid. Also, give it the chance to burn off even the most miniscule amount of calories. After this, drink lots and lots of water. I would like some feedback on this actually, please sign the guestbook.
1: Pray the night before you start. No I'm not joking. This is coming from the most ardent aetheist ever, but seriously, praying before makes a huge difference, almost as if there's some kind of Divine Intervention...

Inspiration

The secret of success is the consistency to pursue. Success won’t just come to you - it has to be met at least half way. Success is the reward for accomplishment When it comes to losing weight, those who can do;those that can make excuses. Everything depends upon the right action of the will. From "Paradise Lost"so soft and uncompunded is their essence pure, not tied or manacled with joint or limb, nor founded on the brittle strength of bones, like cumbrous fleshFrom "Hedwig"the automatist's undoing, the whole world starts unscrewing, as time collapses and space warps. you see decay and ruin, I tell you no no no no, you make such an exquisite corpse.I strive daily so remember that the man I love may one day love me when I'm thin!I do not struggle in your web, because it was my aim to get caught. But daddy longlegs I feel that I'm finally growing weary of waiting to be consumed by you.To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness. - Bertrand RussellDon't eat. If you want to see food, look in the mirror at your thighsOf course it's hard. If it was easy then everybody would do it. Its the hard that makes it great.I want to be the smallest I can possibly be...when I see bone, that's the day I will finally feel free...Fortune favors the brave.

Losing More
Eating Less
Water. Load yourself with it. Keep your stomach totally full of water at all times. Obviously this will leave less room for food. Plus, dehydration makes you hungry.
Become vegetarian. This is not an option. Meat is fatty and disgusting. Do some research on slaughterhouses if you need the incentive. If you are not already underweight, you will lose at least six pounds in two or so months just by omitting meat.
Fat-Free chocolate milk. This is good for sweet cravings, plus it is thick so it fill you up.
RULES, RULES, RULES. This is important. You need to set rules for yourself, and if you are truly ana, you will have no problem sticking to them because you are STRONG! Rules are everything. Don't eat anything white. Do not, under any circumstances, eat after six o'clock. Do not eat before three o'clock. Cut each bite into x amount of pieces, and chew it x amounts of time.
Do not eat anything that has over 3 grams of fat. Make more of your own rules accordingly.
Make worksheets! This is fun and helpful. At the bottom of this page I will put a version of my own worksheet, which I do weekly. This will help you keep track of your goals and progress.
Copy mine or make your own, print out a bunch of them and put them in a binder. Fill them out often, and review them frequently.
Diet Pills. They might be "dangerous", but hey, I am not doing this for my health. I personally use Metabolife. I lived on Dexatrim Natural for years, but sort of outgrew it. Dexatrim is a great product. They will keep you from overeating, plus give you the buzz you will grow so fond of.
When you get the urge to snack, clean the toilet and the bathtub. Clean it well, and use lots of chemicals. The smell will certainly curb your appetite, plus you'll be burning calories!
Chew sugar-free gum.
Don't eat out, ever.
Don't eat anything that you don't know the nutritional value of.
Tea helps calm a hungry belly. It soothes you and fills you up. No fat, No calories.
Between each bite, put your utensil down. Chew your food until it dissolves.
Write your current weight on one hand, and your goal weight on the other. When you go to eat, you'll be reminded how fat you are, and how skinny you could be.
Drink flavored seltzer, or Pelligrino sparkling water. It will keep you hydrated, but it is more filling than just spring water because of the carbonation.
Get Ketostrips from any local pharmacy or Wal-Mart. These will measure the amount of ketones in your urine. Ketones are a byproduct of fat metabolism; your body expels ketones when it is burning fat instead of food. It's important to know when you are in Ketosis because it will help you to know what diet is working for you.
Getting Extra Exercise
WEAR ANKLE WEIGHTS. EVERYWHERE. Burn, baby, burn. No one will see them under your jeans, especially if you wear boot-cuts or flares.
Do not, under any circumstances, set foot in an elevator! Always take the stairs. Especially if you have a heavy load or if you're going up to a very high floor. The more flights, the better.
Where ever you go, park in the furthest possible spot and walk.
Don't sit unless it is totally unreasonable not to. Don't sit on the subway/bus/train, don't sit while you wait for something/someone; standing burns so many more calories than sitting.
Fidget, fidget, fidget. Just by wiggling around a bit during class or work or whatever, you can burn between 300-500 extra calories a day!
If you can do it walking, then walk. If I have reading to do for homework, I walk around the campus while I read. This is obviously tough to do with a huge text book, but I'm talking about doing it with a paperback or something.
March in place while you watch TV.
Do crunches while you watch TV.
Hiding Your Habits
If you find that you MUST go to a family function or other funtion where you will be expected to eat (but not in a restaraunt, type setting where you would all sit together; more like a party with a buffet style meal), get something reasonable like a muffin or some fruit and cheese or whatever, and just carry it around with you. Hover around the table of food now and then, so it is not obvious that you are avoiding it like the plague.
Put dishes and silverware in the sink. Leave "evidence" in the bowl which will correspond to what you claimed to have eaten.
Don't forget to get rid of food you were supposed to have eaten.
Get a bottle of multivitamins and keep your diet pills in the bottle. Always throw the diet-pill boxes away at the store or somewhere outside of your house.
Don't tell people that you think you are fat, and don't talk about dieting. Keep it to yourself, always. You don't want intruders in this part of your life.
Invent an affliction that will be both invisible and "chronic", yet slightly ambiguous. Think Wisdom teeth or "mysterious" stomach problem that just won't seem to get better! Carry around Advil or Tums and use them accordingly when the targeted person (parent, roommate, friend, etc.) is around, but be careful not to make too big of a deal about it. You don't want to make it seem like some horrible illness! Try searching WebMD for some symptoms that could signal any one of a million different things and would make a good excuse for not eating.
Gain a new perspective on animal rights, or organic foods, or anything else that would limit your intake to only your preferred foods. Make comments about things like meat or Doritos such as "Ew.. Do you even know how harmful all those chemicals are to your body?" Get yourself informed on some of these issues (like food additives or GMO's) and talk about them and how bad they are for health and wellness. People will think you are merely very health consious, and will eventually get the idea that you are interested in the total well-being of your body. Trust me, this is my method and it's flawless.
Tools of the Trade
Here are a couple things that I personally use to help me in various ways.
Ankle weights ~ Mine are "Reebok" brand from Target and they cost about $11. I have another pair of cheaper ones from Wal-Mart, but they are nylon instead of neoprene. The extra couple bucks was well worth it for the huge difference in comfort.
3 Lbs weights ~ Get the ones which are shaped like handles; something that will be comfortable to carry around with you when you walk on the treadmill or as you march in place while you watch TV, etc. Carry them whenever it is reasonable to do so without getting funny looks.
Diet Pills ~ Trimspa, Dexatrim, Metabolife, Metabo-FX (which I use), Stackers are all good.
More than one scale ~ You can't trust just one scale.
A FitDay account ~ A cyber version of the Ana Worksheet. How it works is you enter in what you've eaten, and it totals up your calories, carbs, and fat from a giant database of foods. Next you enter in all of your exercise and activity for the day and it totals up your calorie burn. It has lots of great features like charts and graphs that will tell you if you are burning what you eat, or where the greatest amount of your calories are coming from, plus lots more. Best of all it's FREE.
Ketosticks
A Yoga Mat ~ for sit ups
A Pedometer ~ Be sure to get one that counts miles in addition to steps.

Fasting
INFO ON A 10 DAY WATER FAST:
How much weight will I lose?
Weight loss can initially be as high as three to four pounds per day, much of it water, but as the fast continues, the average loss will be one pound per day. If you are juice fasting and not losing weight, the juice is supplying all the calories you need. You may have to cut down on the juices or alternate between water fasting and juice fasting if losing weight is part of your goal. The slower your metabolism, the slower the weight loss.
Will I get too thin?
If you are thin or at average weight and you fast for 30 days on juice or 10 days on water, ribs will show, face will become gaunt, friends and family will notice. It is imperative not to eat a lot after the fast because the body will quickly re-gain the lost weight during the next 10 days. Instead, ease yourself onto food by gradually incorporating fruit and veg in your diet. Metabolism is normalized due to the cleansing process. It is very important not to try to gain weight too quickly. The body can rebuild only at a set rate. Overeating will burden the body and undermine the rebuilding process.
Will fasting shrink my stomach?
From years of over-filling the stomach, it is no surprise that the muscles supporting the tummy have lost its natural elasticity, stretched out of shape. People with large protruding stomachs need more food to feel full, out-eating their need. Fasting helps recover the stomach's natural elasticity, restoring a flat stomach. You will be satisfied on less food, tummy in proportionate size to the body’s caloric requirement. Absence of Food and StateFasting refers to the complete absence of Food, only Water.Short-Term FastingIn general, fasts should be conducted for no longer than 28 days, with most fasts 21 days or less. Long fats (for more than 42 days), are both unnecessary, and potentially dangeroud. A prolonged fast, for more than 2-3 months, is called Starvation! Although most of the 'miraculous' benefits of fasting do result from 3-5 days or more but 7-14 days, that's "healing". Although days 1-7 are quite benefitial to be sure, days 7-14 are truly tremendous, with the benefits from days 14-21 becoming extreme. Days 21-28 are nothing than a complete regeneration of the body. Literally erasing years of aging. (Where the true "Miracles of fasting" take place).
Medium-Term FastingMedium fasts (Between 28-42 days), although certainly possible, and frequently performed by dedicated fasters. The benefits of a 35 day fast are absolutely astonishing!
Fasting and Ketone Bodies
After the third day of a fast, the body begins to make ketone bodies in the liver (Enters ketosis). In the absence of food (Energy), Ketone bodies are produced by the body as an alternate energy source. Normally, ketone levels in the blood are less than 0.2mm. After several days of fasting they approach 3.0mm, and steadily rise thereafter. Importantly, never eat, even an extremely amount of food during a fast. This will quickly shift the body out of ketosis, back to its normal metabolism of glucose (food), decreasing ketone bodies, decreasing growth hormone and increasing hunger.
Fasting and Hunger Levels
The only challenge to fasting, and a challenge for many it is, is completing the first 1-5 days. During days 1-5 hunger levels can flucuate from average, to well above average many actually experience their greatest hunger on day 3 (Just prior to ketosis, when both blood sugar, and ketone body levels, are lowest). After day 3, hunger levels noticeably decrease. After day 5, hunger levels, and the "desire" for food in general (So strong initially), dramatically decrease. After day 10, hunger levels, for the most part, are non-existent.
Fasting and Energy
LevelsDuring days 1-5, energy levels can flucuate from average to well below average (Feeling light headed, at times, is not uncommon). During days 5-10, energy levels very noticeably improve after day 10, with sharply elevated levels of both growth hormone, and ketone bodies, energy levels are tremendous, as is mental clarity.Fasting and Weight LossExpect (in general) to lose 1 pound each day of fasting!Fasting and StarvationContrary to what many people believe, fasting is not starvation. During the fast, the body is breaking down the non-essential tissue (Fat) for energy. While conserving essential tissue. Starvation, is the point where the body has used up all of its non-essential tissues (Reserves) ,and begins to break down its own essential tissues. This point (The point of starvation), even for the average individual (Of normal weight), takes quite some time to reach (Some 42 days or more).
Fasting and severely restrictive dietsProlonged, severely restrictive diets are extremely unhealthy, in many cases, even life threatening. Unlike fasting, the body never completely enters ketosis (A fundamental process in sparing essential tissue from breaking down). The result, severely restrictive diets cause the body to lose a much greater percentage of lean body tissue (Essential tissue) than a complete fast. Over time (Once body reserves become dangerously low), lean body tissue (Essential tissue) eventually become used as an energy source. Prolonged, severely restrictive diets, are essentially just a slow form of starvation.Fasting and Calorie RestrictionCalorie restricted (10-30%) diets are extremely healthy. Unlike severly restricted diets, the bodies energy (Food) needs are restricted just enough to result in sharply elevated levels of growth hormone, while eliminating the need to break down essential tissues.Recommended Fasting ScheduleDefinitely include short-term fasting (1-28 days) into your schedule. Your body will begin to literally "grow younger" before your eyes, especially, after day 10.Discipline and DeterminationSuppressing hunger (During days 1-5), one of life's greatest drives, is not easy for most! Eliminating food (During the fasting period), one of life's greatest pleasures, is not easy for most! However, those that have the discipline, and determination, wil have tremendous to extreme healthy benefits awaiting them!
No Pain No GainWith the exceptions of days 1-5, particulary day 3, fasting is not nearly as difficult as one might imagine (In fact, after day 10, quite pleasurable).
Remember too, exercise (Discussed next), also associated with some degree of self sacrifice to promote health, pales in comparison to fasting in terms of health benefits.
In fact, one could perform 1-3 annual (14-28) fasts, or calorie restrict (10-30%), never exercise again, and achieve a state of health that no form or amount of exercise could ever accomplish.
The good and bad on fasting:
it focuses the body on burning up and clearing toxins.
Its great for loosing weight!!!
Breaks down cancer cells and other illnesses
Also breaks down....built up chemicals, BODY FAT, and transformed fatty acids.
You have to drink 8-10 glasses og water a day
you have to stay exercise as your body gets weak
You will suffer from dizziness, especially when getting up from sitting or laying down,
May cause black outs if you go for a long fast
Juice fast can cause extreme bowl movement.
Take a multi-vitimin as the body may lack in this area.***WATER FASTING***
This will mainly benefit people with a low metabloism, as it gathers lots of energy and then will find it easier compared to lower metabloism who will lose energy and probaly feel drowned out.
Water dieting is one long detoxication, the long detox.
Water fasting demands mental preperation, clear your calendar for the amount of days your planning to fast for.
Water fasting is proven to be more difficult then juice fasting as the body is getting no calories or nutrients.***JUICE FASTING***
There are alot of nutrients in fresh juice that energizes the body's natural regenerative abilities.
This system of removing wasteand supply a full spectrum of nutrients has an advantage of over weight loss program
Drinking less juice supples fewer calories therefore increasing detoxication.
Juice diet drinks include: fresh juice, herbal tea, vegetable broth, and Barley green/water.~~FASTING~~
Water. We absolutely must drink water to survive, and it has zero calories, so there's no excuse to not drink it. As we typically get much of our water content from foods, when we reduce food intake we begin to dehydrate ourselves, which is dangerous. Also, cold water chills the body and may raise metabolism to get warm again.
Vitamins and minerals. We must have these, too, to survive and so againg there's no reason not to take atleast a daily multivitamin (which may help reduce some cravings aswell). Vitamins are vital in keeping our bodies functioning and our skin, hair, teeth nice. Particularly be aware of electrolytes(potassium, magnesium, salt, along w/ water balance) and calcium.
Protein. Protein is necessary, particularly if youre exercising. It maintains and repairs our muscles, including heart muscle, which is (last i heard) kind of a requisite for continued survival.
Caffeine. While caffeine can be an appetite supressant and can increase your metabolism, it will also act as a diuretic. Drink a glass of water for each cup of tea, coffee, or diet soda you have.
Again, dehydration is a potentially serious problem.
Get plenty of sleep. Steal naps whenever you can and rest when you need to rest. Sleep deprivation increases appetit and makes you age faster.
Distractions
Strip all your bed sheets and wash them.
Do some dusting around your place.
Clean out your computer of unwanted files by doing a disk clean-up and a disk defragment. Your computer will run better and faster.
Get a couple programs called Ad-Aware, plus Spybot Search and Destroy and scan for adware components. You don't want that stuff on your computer.
Do a free online virus scan at trendmicro.com to make sure your system is clean.
Check online for security updates for your software. Better safe than sorry.
Exercise, exercise, exercise. It's good for you, keeps you fit and moving burning unwanted calories.
Listen to upbeat music and dance around.
Watch TV, but place the remote control far away. This makes you get up when you want to change channel, ect.
If your sitting, twitch your leg. Might as well burn calories while you sit down too.
Play a musical instrument. (For me it's guitar ... I'm terrible but I still play it.)
Design your own thinspirational or pro-ana site. It's actually quite time consuming, fun and it teaches you a skill.
Find songs that relate to ana/mia.
Burn a thinspirational cd.
Make a list of your goals and how/when you want to have them acheived by.
Try out a new hair style.
Exfoliate your body. (Must have very warm shower for this to open your pores.)
Give yourself a make-over.
Have a cool shower.
Go through the song section and download the songs, then burn your own thinspirational CD.
Keep checking back into this site, join my forums and post. (Lol, I know ... cheap pop.)
Do an online research of your favorite musician, and join any Yahoo groups that might be around on this musician.
If you don't already get a Yahoo account and enjoy the benefits like free e-mail account, messanger, groups, games, ect.
Get AOL instant messenger, then chat with others.
Unsure about a piece of information reguarding weight loss / metabolic rate, ect.? Do an online research to make sure your information is as accurate as possible.
Make your own journal, writing down goals - food eaten - calories burned - weight lost - thinspiration pics - motivational things, and such.
Brush your teeth. Get a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste set and use it often. A clean minty mouth can make the thought of eating less attractive. Also, if you brush after every meal and every supposed meal, it's less obvious whether you've eaten or not.
Take a shower. Hot steamy water can suppress the appetite, in me at least, and paying close attention to your body will serve to remind you exactly why you're losing weight in the first place. If you feel clean you may not want to "dirty" yourself with food.
Fidget, take up a new hobby, find something to focus on. Find something with which to distract your hands and / or mouth. Chewing gum works for many people, but check for calories. Sewing or stringing beads is good, detail-oriented and monotonous. Keep yourself occupied.
Exercise. Find something you love to do and do it. If, like me, you're too self-conscious to exercise where people can see, then do it when you're alone at home or in a locked room or other safe place. Make it interesting. The best I've found? Dancing. Find music you love, cover the windows up, and don't even think about what you may look like since there's nobody to see. It's a lot of fun, and it helps you get more familiar with your body as well.
Find triggering pictures. You have internet access, I know you do. When you feel like eating, pick an actress or model that you think is particularly beautiful and search for pictures of them ... or for pictures of people you find particularly ugly and fat. It's a slow, involving process and for me at least a great way to avoid eating.
Take a nap. A lot of people think they're hungry when really they're just tired. Also, drink water, since thirst can make you think you're hungry as well.
